Tutorials Disabling 802.1x authentication for wired connections (Windows)
If you are using 802.1x authentication, then the wired connection won’t work… so you will need to disable it.
Setting up your PC on Windows 11 (wired)
- Go to Windows Settings
- Network and Internet
- At the top, on “Ethernet”, click Properties
- Then “Connect”
- Enter your credentials and OK
- ”Connect”
- After a short while you should be connected to MiNET
The latest Windows 11 update requires additional configuration if you cannot connect:
Press the following key combination: Windows + R and then type ncpa.cpl.
In the window that opens, you need to:
- Right-click on your wired network card (identify it by its brand: Intel, Asus, D-Link, etc.)
- Click “Properties”, a window will open
- In the “Authentication” tab
- Uncheck the use of 802.1X authentication
- Confirm the open window by clicking “OK”
Once these steps are done, all that’s left is to plug in your RJ45 cable and you should automatically connect to the MiNET wired network. Note that authentication may take a few seconds. Also, a PC restart may be necessary.
