Set up a PC with Windows (7/8/8.1/10/11) to use the WiFi


Prerequisites:

In order to register devices on the MiNET network, you have to add your MAC addresses on your account. To do so, you can follow the instructions on " Adding devices on your MiNET account".


Set up your PC with Windows (WiFi)

This tutorial will guide you on how to connect to the MiNET WiFi network for Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11.


For Windows 11

If you were previously connected to our network and can no longer connect: forget the MiNET network by right clicking on it in the WiFi network list.

  • Click on your Wi-Fi networks
  • Click on "MiNET" and connect
  • Fill your credentials to connect to the MiNET network and ok
  • "connect"
  • After a delay, you will be connect to MiNET !
  • In case of problems, make sure you have entered your MAC address

If you were previously connected to our network and can no longer connect: forget the MiNET network by right clicking on it in the WiFi network list.

Do the following key combination: Windows + R then type "control.exe /name Microsoft.NetworkAndSharingCenter".

If you do not see the text Wi-Fi(MiNET) in the window that opens
  • Click on "Set up a new connection or network".
  • Click on "Manually connect to a wireless network".
  • Fill in the field "Network name" with "MiNET" and "Security type" with "WPA2 - Enterprise".
  • Confirm with "Next"
  • If a message informs you that the network already exists, please forget it before starting this procedure again.
  • Click on "Change connection settings".
  • In the "Security" tab, click on "Settings".
  • Uncheck "Verify the identity of the server by validating the certificate" and check, by clicking on "Configure", that the option "Automatically use my Windows name and password" is unchecked.
  • Go back to the "Security" tab and go to "Advanced Settings".
  • Check "Specify authentication mode", and in the list choose "User authentication".
  • Click on "Register Identity" and fill in your credentials to connect to the MiNET network.
  • You can validate everything with OK and close these windows, you should now be logged in!


For Windows 8/8.1/10

Disable the server's certificate check

If you were previously connected to our network and can no longer connect: forget the MiNET network by right clicking on it in the WiFi network list.

Do the following key combination: Windows + R then type "control.exe /name Microsoft.NetworkAndSharingCenter".

If you do not see the text Wi-Fi(MiNET) in the window that opens
  • Click on "Set up a new connection or network".
  • Click on "Manually connect to a wireless network".
  • Fill in the field "Network name" with "MiNET" and "Security type" with "WPA2 - Enterprise".
  • Confirm with "Next"
  • If a message informs you that the network already exists, please forget it before starting this procedure again.
  • Click on "Change connection settings".
  • In the "Security" tab, click on "Settings".
  • Uncheck "Verify the identity of the server by validating the certificate" and check, by clicking on "Configure", that the option "Automatically use my Windows name and password" is unchecked.
  • Go back to the "Security" tab and go to "Advanced Settings".
  • Check "Specify authentication mode", and in the list choose "User authentication".
  • Click on "Register Identity" and fill in your credentials to connect to the MiNET network.
  • You can validate everything with OK and close these windows, you should now be logged in!
If you see the text Wi-Fi(MiNET) in the window that opens
  • Left click on the "Wi-Fi (MiNET)" text
  • Left click on "wireless properties", a window opens
  • Go in the "Security" tab
  • Left click on "Settings"
  • Uncheck the "Verify server identity by validating the certificate" option
  • Validate the changes by clicking "OK"
Once done, you can now connect to the Wi-Fi network.

For Windows 7

For Windows 7, you need to manually add the WiFi network :

Do the following key combination: Windows+R then type  control .

  • You should come across the Control Panel. Click on “Network and Internet”, then in “Network and Sharing Center” and choose “Set up a new connection or network”.
  • Click on “Manually connect to a wireless network”.
  • Type “MiNET” in “Network name” and choose the “WPA2-Enterprise” security type.
  • Check the “Start this connection automatically “ checkbox.
  • Click on “Next”, then on “Change connection settings”.

  • In the “Authentication” tab, click on “Settings”.
  • Uncheck the “Verify the server’s identity by validating the certificate” checkbox.
  • Then click on “Configure...”.
  • Make sure that the “Automatically use my Windows logon name an password” checkbox is unchecked.
  • Validate the two last open windows by clicking on “OK”.

  • Back on the “Authentication” tab, click on the “Additional parameters” button.
  • Check the option “Specify authentication mode”.
  • Sélectionnez dans la liste déroulante débloquée "Remplacer l'identification"
  • From the drop-down menu, choose “User authentication” and then click on “Save credentials” and enter your MiNET login and password to register them.
  • Validate all the opened windows by clicking on “OK”.
Once all of these steps are done, you only have to wait a few seconds, and you should be automatically connected on the “MiNET”. Take note that the authentication can take a few seconds. Sometimes, rebooting your pc is necessary.
